UVC is a lesser-known type of radiation, which is at a smaller wavelength than the more commonly known UVA and UVB. UVC is not frequently talked about because the ozone layer in our atmosphere absorbss all UVC rays before they make it to Earth.
The adaption of UVC radiation in the new sterilization device, ProTec 99™, aids in the sterilization of surfaces and provides a safer, cleaner, and healthier environment. UVC radiation with a peak wavelength of 253.7 nm has been shown to be 99.99% effective at inactivating viruses, bacteria, and fungi.
UVC waves cause irreparable damage to the genetic material of the microbes, causing inactivation which prevents infection and reproduction. Because viruses lack internal structures and protective coating, their genetic material is especially vulnerable, making them even more susceptible to inactivation by UVC radiation.
Once the viral genome is damaged by UVC radiation, the virus will no longer be capable of infecting hosts or replicating to produce new viral particles. This is true for both surface and air-born virus particles.
