Description
The TEKTELIC Mulch Temperature Sensor is an ideal solution for monitoring and transmitting real-time data relating to the temperature of mulch beds. Two device variants are available depending on the depth of the mulch that needs to be monitored and also include an onboard temperature and humidity sensor for the ambient environment. TEKTELIC’s Mulch Sensor utilizes a ruggedized IP67 polycarbonate enclosure for deployment in the most extreme environmental conditions and includes an integrated Li-SOCl2 battery for an optimized battery life of up to 10 years. The device supports battery status reporting for easy maintenance via an application server.

The mulch pile fire risk
Mulch piles offer numerous benefits but can become a serious fire hazard, particularly in hot and dry conditions. The internal heat buildup within these piles is often unseen and can lead to spontaneous combustion. The consequences can be devastating—costly property damage, environmental harm, and even lives at risk.

What’s in the box?
The temperature sensor is mounted on the end of a long probe, allowing the temperature to be taken from the middle of a pile but with the sensor kept above the top level to allow for good LoRaWAN reception.
The mulch probe is available in two lengths – 4′ (1.2m) and 8′ (2.4m) – to allow for measurement at different depths.
